система частиц; [алгоритмическая] система отображения частиц
в трёхмерной графике служит для моделирования множеств малых объектов, например искр, снега, дождя, пчелиного роя; если требуется представить сотни или тысячи подобных частиц, то используются алгоритмы их генерации во время рендеринга, с разными размерами, ориентацией и траекториями, в соответствии с задаваемыми пользователем параметрами. Алгоритмы обычно реализуются как сценарии, моделирующие при необходимости сложное поведение (например, следование пчелиного роя за маткой или разброс частиц при взрыве)
